🛡️ NEW SCHOOL SAFETY PROCEDURE: WEAPON DETECTION SYSTEMS

As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, the Millville Area School District is implementing weapon detection systems as an additional layer of safety and security for our students, employees, families, and visitors.

📅 Implementation Dates
🏫 Jr./Sr. High School: Wednesday, September 2
🏫 Elementary School: Thursday, September 3

Students will be introduced to a simple morning screening process:

1️⃣ Follow staff directions as you approach the screening area.
2️⃣ Place identified personal items in the provided bin.
3️⃣ Hold your District-issued device above your head as directed.
4️⃣ Walk normally through the weapon detector.
5️⃣ Retrieve your belongings and continue with your normal morning routine.

An alert does NOT automatically mean a student has done something wrong. Everyday items may occasionally activate the system. When additional screening is necessary, District personnel will work to identify the cause respectfully, discreetly, and efficiently.

⏰ Please allow extra time during the first several days. As with any new procedure, there will be an adjustment period while our students and staff become familiar with the process.

We ask families to help by reminding students to arrive on time, follow staff directions, organize their belongings, and regularly check backpacks and bags to make sure prohibited or inappropriate items are not accidentally brought to school.

Our goal is to add another layer of security while maintaining the welcoming, respectful, and student-centered environment our students deserve.
