MASD Transportation Guidelines:
As per PA School Code, the Millville Area School District is required to provide all district students with
transportation from their permanent residence to their district school and/or non-public school within a ten mile radius of the district and back to their permanent residence. Also, the district will transport students to a different in-district address commensurate with custodial documentation on file within the district. It is the responsibility of parents and guardians to provide the district with up-to-date custodial documentation in order to facilitate such transportation plans.
In addition to providing transportation services to students to and from their permanent residence and custodial addresses within the district, the Millville Area School District will transport students to before and after school child care programs providing that the following criteria are met:
- The child care program is an accredited child care program/facility;
- The child care program/facility has been approved by the board of education as an approved program/facility to which the district will transport;
- The student must attend the child care program DAILY (FIVE days per week) throughout the school year;
- The child care program is situated along a pre-established district bus route;
- The bus that services the bus route including the child care program must have seating capacity to accommodate request; and
- Transportation to any approved child care program is contingent upon the MASD district calendar. Therefore, the MASD is not responsible to transport students to approved child care facility/program when the district is not operating. (Please consult the district website for the up-to-date district calendar for school closings.)
Parents must submit requests for transportation of students to or from accredited child care facilities to the District Transportation Coordinator ONLY. Parents shall communicate their requests via email no less than two weeks prior to the onset of transportation services to ensure all of the aforementioned criteria are met prior to implementing a transportation plan change on behalf of the student.
In an effort to maintain the highest degree of student safety and supervision, the Millville Area School
District will not transport students to alternate locations based upon parental and guardian situational requests. On the contrary, permanent transportation plans should be situated at the onset of the year and should be permanent for remaining school year.
The district will only transport students to child care facilities and programs that have been previously approved by the board of education.
Out of an abundance of caution, the district will NOT provide “bus passes” to students which enable
them to be transported on alternate transportation based upon student and/or parent/guardian
requests which deviate from the student’s permanent transportation plan in order to participate in
social events, play dates, sleepovers etc.
As per PA School Code, the Millville Area School District shall provide specialized transportation to
students with disabilities in accordance with their respective Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in
order for them to access the educational benefit of district programming.
In the event that a student engages in behavior that is contrary to district policies and/or presents a
threat to the safety and welfare of himself/herself and/or others when situated on district-provided
transportation, administration may impose progressive discipline including bus suspension. District-
provided transportation is a privilege that can be withheld if behavior warrants.
In the event of an emergency and/or an unforeseen situation, parents who necessitate changes in
transportation must contact their building administrator directly in order for an alteration to be
implemented.
