Millville Area School District would like to help parents/guardians and students treat minor pain, uncomplicated headaches, menstrual cramps, by providing a standing order for Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen. This means that the school physician authorizes students to receive the above medications within certain guidelines and parental/guardian permission. Acetaminophen dosage at the Elementary School will be calculated by weight. Dosage of Acetaminophen at the High School level will be a standard recommended dose of 1-2 tablets of regular strength (325mg) Acetaminophen. Dosage of Ibuprofen at the High School level will be a standard recommended dose of 1-2 tablets of 100mg Ibuprofen. Temperatures greater than or equal to 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit will be referred to a parent/guardian, and no Acetaminophen will be administered.
Administration of Prescribed Medication
The administration of a prescribed medication to a student during school hours will be permitted only when failure to take such medication would jeopardize the health of the student and/or the student would not be able to attend school if the medication was not made available during school hours.
The parent or guardian must complete a permission form before any medication will be administered. You may print the Medication Administration Request Form or pick up a form at the school health office. The following information must be provided:
1. Name of Student
2. Name of Medication
3. Dosage and Time Medication is to be given
4. Signature of Physician
5. The prescription number and date must be on the bottle label

Self-medication for students who need an inhaler, diabetic supplies, or an EPI-PEN for allergic emergency.
The school district will permit self-medication during school hours only when failure to take such medication would jeopardize the health of the student or if the student would not be able to attend school without taking the medication. To self-medicate, a student must demonstrate that they are capable and will be responsible. A parent/guardian must sign permission on behalf of the student giving permission for the student to self-administer the above-mentioned medications. The student's physician must also provide written orders and signature allowing student to self-administer medication. You may print the Self-Administration Medication Request Form or pick one up from the school health office.
